I am looking for information on John Christopher Nevill supposedly born 26th December 1771 in Chelmsford Essex.
The above named father was John Nevill.
John Christopher Nevill might have changed his name to John Windell because of his father not favouring his marriage to one Sarah Hobson in 1806.
See attached part of Marriage certificate downloaded from ancenstry.uk website.Unfortunately they do not show the full certificate.
John Windell and Sarah Hobson then emigrated to Cape Town South Africa and had 8 sons list attached of their names at their baptism.
Please note how the Nevill family names are appearing.
Could you let me know how I could possibly find out more information on John Christopher Nevill and if he did change his name to John Windell.

In 1806 there were no marriage certs. & the Parish Register will only give names of witnesses.
It wasn't necessary to notify anyone with regard to changing names & this quite often happened for all sorts of reasons.
I think you need to find how the name Windell fits into this family if at all,mother's maiden name perhaps.For this you need to search the Parish Register & see if his father's marriage is listed.
I would put this on the Essex board & ask if someone can look at the Chelmsford PR's for you,assuming that's where his father married.

Good Day
My name is Bernadette Windell, I immigrated from South Africa to Australia.
I am trying to find any information on my family but it is very difficult as South Africa does not make available any records,
As most of my elders are deceased I can not ask them for permission and do not have their birth or Death Certificates.
I was wondering if I can view your records.
My Grand Fathers names was Acttor Francis Windell ( Eddie) His 3 sons was Charles, David, and Neville Windell.
My father David Windell has passed away, and so has Uncle Charles.
Only Uncle Neville remains
