Started but stuck
« on: Wednesday 23 December 09 18:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi All, i recently posted a topic, but been new left it very vague. I have recently decided to do a family tree, the problems i have is that my family broke up about 20 years ago and i have very little to go on, my grand parents are still living but i have no wish to contact them for support, my father did not know his grandparents and that is where i am stuck.
My Grand mother is Maureen A Howes ( maiden name was rogers-Jones)
My grandfather was Arthur Charles Smith (died around 1996)
they divorced before my grandfather died (not sure of year but think around 1990)
I have tried the BDM website and a number of others but to no avail.
I know my next point is my Grandfather but i don't know any thing about him except that his Surname was Rogers-Jones, and that he served in the armed forces, and now i am stuck.
I have heard in my family that he was not married when he had my nan but that he later married. I am not sure that he was on my nans marriage certificate either.
So as you can see i am rather stuck and am not sure where to look next, i know that i will have to pay for information but at the moment i am reluctant to do this in case it comes to nothing.
If there is any one that can help in any way it will be much appreciated.
Many Thanks

did you take the advice offered on your original thread?

I must say I find this one somewhat confusing.

Does this really mean to say GREAT Grandfather ?

Hi,

Is your grandmother still alive. If she is, we can't discuss her on Rootschat. But with this surname, we ought to be able to find earlier members of the family.

I'm checking BMD for your grandmother's parents now.

Jen :)

There are no Batchelor to RJ marriages in a suitable timeframe  :(

assume the area is Worcester overall - there are post-1953 births with the right combination of names.

Hi All

Thanks for trying to help, as you can proberly see i am getting my self tied in knots, i have been trying todo this for about 3 months to no avail, In reply to the questions here goes

My great gran mother died before my great grandad who the remarried (not sure of either of there names)

My grandmother has never been a batchelor unless my great grandmother and great grandfather were not married at the time. But i do know that her brother has the name of roger-jones.

i believe that they have always lived in and around the worcester/kiddeminster area.

Thanks Again for every one trying to help

Information removed due to RC persons-alive rule.

Blueyed - I think you need to get that Birth certificate: cant see Maureens parents marriage at present.

Added: but see below for a possible 1932 marriage.
