Unfortunately Richard died before publishing the book. His son completed the research and published the book a few years ago. It sold out in weeks, I saw it and wondered whether to buy one
Richard's widow has refused to allow any reprints.
Copies are now like gold dust and in fact some of those that were in Suffolk Libraries have mysteriously disappeared
There are some researchers with copies of this book who kindly carry out look ups - you may be lucky?
Pat ...
Yes, I'd read about that in other posts (after I'd already posted) - ah well, if Richard's widow won't allow a reprint, then there's not a lot that can be done about it.
The annoying thing is that I was at the Lowestoft Record Office earlier on this year (whilst on a 2 week holiday in Southwold), but I hadn't yet found out about Frederic's convict past.
Gazania's link (i.e. downloading the Conduct Record: CON33/1/97 and Indent Record: CON14/1/41) confirmed that Frederic is the same person by virtue of his age (he was born on 17th February 1812), birth place (Dickleburgh, Norfolk), and profession (Tailor - which matches the 1841 Woodbridge Census and that of his wife's (Jane Dixon) death certificate from Woodbridge in 1843).
I guess that since he doesn't appear on subsequent censuses post 1851, then he would have stayed out in Australia and probably died there? So, if Richard's book spreads any more light on what happened after 1854/1855, then I'd love to know! Failing that, if anybody knows what other paths to follow, then please do let me know as well.
Many thanks,
Nick King
