Hi Steven,

not sure if this is much help to you? But here goes...

I can't see a marriage for John and Sarah but it appears they were living as man and wife by the 1871 census. Conveniently next door to Sarah's parents!

Heather hello
on the 1871 the census records show Sarah Ann and John Hancock
are both 20 but on the records you gave me Sarah was born on 01/12/1850 and John 14/12/1851. Do you think this is the right Sarah or do you think she was lying about her age. Womans prerogative

Hi again Steven,

Best to remember these are baptism and not birth records. For an exact date you would need to order a birth certificate. Often infants were baptised within days/weeks of birth but neither is it uncommon for it to be months or years after birth, so it's only a rough guide!

As the 1871 was taken 2nd April 1871, age 20 would be correct for Sarah ...though you might expect John to be 19 and not 20. Either way, people were not always accurate and as they were living in someone else's household I would think it most likely that someone simply made a "best guess" as to their ages!

All the best, Heather

And here they are in 1871 Shefield (which ties in nicely with the movements of your John and Sarah). Of course you could really use the 1861 now to complete the picture (which I don't have).
