Rev William BURNS - Wexford 1853
« on: Saturday 26 December 09 11:37 GMT (UK) »
Have confirmed that the Rev William Burns was located somewhere in Wexford 1853, through a marriage newspaper article (1853) of his sister Jane to Richard Morgan in Bailieborough County Cavan.

I do not know what denomination he belonged to, possibly Presbyterian or Church of Ireland.

Would appreciate any information in locating where he was in Wexford.

The Ecclesiastical Directory in Thom's of 1852 includes the following in the Presbyterian section:

 XXI Dublin Presbytery
  William Burns, Wexford

going by the other place-names I would say that this entry refers to the town of Wexford. (the other places listed in this section include Mountmellick, Kingstown, Killucan, Drogheda, Bray, Birr.. etc)

Based on the fact he is listed there for quite a while, I'd say there's a good chance he died in Wexford - if that's the case then this would look to be a good match for his death from the Irish Civil Index :

 Name: William Burns
 Registration district: Wexford
 Record type: Death
qtr and year: Apr - Jun 1881
Age: 53     (est birth year: 1828)
 Volume: 4 / Page: 642

If this fits the details you have, it might be worth ordering a death cert from the GRO using these details - this  would show if he was married, and could show his wife's name as informant.

Shane, was thinking the same thing, that he could have died in Wexford.

My est birthdate for William was between 1826-28. Parents married c1825 and my gggrandmother Jane born 1829. It appears that you may have the correct record. Think it is definately worth ordering a death cert.

Cheers
