This is just a guess but..

Lily May was born in Ilkeston Derbys - in 1891 she lived at bath St Ilkeston and after marriage in 1901 census she lived at Lord haddon Rd Ilkeston , so possibly she was married in Ilkeston. The nearest church would be St Marys -but there are lots of church/chapels in Ilkeston.

If you are not purchasing the marriage cert then maybe the best place to start looking would be St Marys registers

Hi Elaine….. :)

Good detective work from Suz….. 8)

The marriage did take place at St Mary, Ilkeston, Derbyshire in 1899 = Arthur Vasey & Lillie May Wood.
To obtain the exact date and any other information you will need to look at the entry from the parish register or get the certificate from the GRO……unless someone has access to the register or transcriptions over on the Derbyshire board.

Sheila.

Thank you so much for your replies - Suz and Sheila. I really appreciate it!!

I will post a message on the Derbyshire board - before I make a trip [or otherwise to Matlock] which is where Derbyshire records are kept.

By the way - could I please ask another question of both of you? [oh-fountains of knowledge] - how do I find out more about enumeration districts? Is there a website that tells me where they are and what areas they cover? Someone suggested to me that the enumeration district recorded on each census would give me a clue as to possible areas for parish records - you know, would give me a more definate area to look at [Basford in Nottingham is a HUGE area to search - as you know!!]

Many, many thanks for your help with this!!

Ilkeston library may have the information you are looking for

I usually go to Matlock about once a month -but can't see me making the trip until well into January

I was in Ilkeston a couple of days ago!!!!!!!

Please let us know if you find the information - as I will keep you in mind should I manage to get out and about before too long

Thank you Suz - you are very kind!

I will indeed let you know - Ilkeston is far easier for me to get to than Matlock - as I havent a car!!

Do they keep micro fiche there for you to access? Maybe it would be worth me contacting them first?

they have quite a good local studies section - they have a lot of old Ilkeston newspapers on film too -so you may find a marriage report
or funeral report - it is surprising what info you can get from a funeral report!!!

It is as well  to ring them to book a machine and for enquiries of what info they have =althouugh you can get a good idea from the website
