Thought you'd have picked it up earlier - I found it at lunch time . The only death  for a Lilian Carlisle <surname> was for a Lilian Carlisle Frost  in 1979 and the only marriage of a Lilian Carlisle <surname> to a Frost was a Lilian Carlisle Taylor in 1953.  She married  William Frost using her married name.

Still no sign of Duncan after 1871 at the moment. He might well have been a seaman- engineer.

Mike

I'm starting to think that she might have been born as  Lil(l)ian Carlisle. I'm having problems with my laptop at the moment so searching is pretty slow. I have noticed a few lillian Carlisle births around the correct time.  It might be worth following them up.

Hi Winston

I have the original marriage cert in front of me the G could have been
recorded instead of a C, the recorder might have mis-read the long hand entry.

HI Gadget

I never even entere my head to look for a death or a marriage for our Lilian.

I do agree with you that it  looks possible that she was born as Carlisle cos she likes using it from that the first marriage onwards.

Mike

Can I ask what was the exact address that Lilian gave on her first marriage cert in 1908?

I've had a few similar ones before, Wendy.  I checked for a death and there was only one showing of roughly the correct age but not the correct surname -- sooooooooooooo  :)

Also, i was hoping that there might be a discrepancy iin father's name between the two marriage certs but sadly, no.  I think there is definitely a name change somewhere but...

I've searched for Lil(l)ian without a surname on the censuses and birth registers but nothing stands out. there must be a clue somewhere  :-\

Maybe we should concentrate on Duncan, b. 1864, the mechanical engineer.

I've just finished looking on FindMyPast incase she was born overseas and just stated bn London cos that's where she lived prior to marriage.

But no luck.
