Welsh Genealogy Dictionary

I wonder if anyone would be interested in compiling a list of Welsh words that crop up frequently on censuses and other records, to help those of us who research in Wales, but whose knowledge of the language isn't up to interpreting poorly indexed or handwritten records?

I think I've seen a list of census words somewhere before, so if someone can point me in the right direction I might be able to make a start, assisted by the online dictionary BUT I would really appreciate some "tidy" help!!

Please contact me by reply here or by PM

Many thanks!

Hi Heather

No, I wasn't but at first glance it seems that's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind!

I have had one offer of assistance (and been very busy so haven't done anything concrete) but there seems no point in re-inventing the wheel!  Will have a good look and if anyone has any other good sites they'd like to point me toward, I would be very grateful and I'll collect them somewhere handy.

Many thanks, Heather.

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

It seems to mostly relevant to terms in modern day censuses but every bit helps.  ;)

This is a particularly useful basic list of MI rather than Census phrases:

All good stuff - thanks.

Keep 'em coming!

Once I know whether there's anything like I'm imagining, I can decide whether to make something or just improve our list of resources.

Thanks Pinot

Useful for graves etc - maybe I'm being picky cos it was the 1911 census that got me started on this and it isn't just census-y enough for me!

If you see what I mean?!?

Though there are certainly census words in there too.
