DARGAVEL James b. 1816
« on: Wednesday 30 December 09 19:20 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am looking for information on the parents of James Dargavel, born 1816 in Dalton, Dumfries. The baptism record also mentions Gravelpits.  His parents' names are J. Dargavel and Jane Murdoch. I haven't been able to find any information at all about either of them.
Thank you.

Not any further info on parents but potentially some further details for a sister Catherine www.nbgs.ca/firstfamilies/FAMILY-I-2006.pdf  (pg 11)

Did the whole family emigrate? There are these old posts on another forum http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.britisles.scotland.dfs.general/756.1134.1142/mb.ashx

Hi  :)

I think he might well be  related in some way to my Burgess line - the ones that went to Canada.   If so, he's well researched, I think.

I'll get the links to the threads and put them here.

You could PM rheco as he would have the Dargavel info.

If so he married Agnes Burgess (I think she's the sister of Thomas Burgess, founder of Bala)  and lived Bentinck, Ontario

On the 1871, the family are in Grey South, Bentinck.

Thanks so much for the inforamtion, I really appreciate the responses.  I am going to pursue the Catherine Dargavel connection, it looks promising, as there are several Catherines in my family, including my grandmother.  I think the entire family might have emigrated, not just my gggrandfather, as there are several Dargavels mentioned in the New Brunswick archives that don't sound familiar to me.
Gadget, I know there were Dargavels who emigrated to Ontario.  I haven't been able to make a connection with my family, who emigrated to New Brunswick.
Happy New Year all!
Kathy

I might have some information on James Dargavel and Jane Murdock,  but I can not understand how to send a PM. I would like to contact you, I think your Grandmother might have been my Greataunt.  Mina Olson and James Dargavel were my G-grandparents. Their parents were James Dargavel and Mary Stevenson, son of James Dargavel and Jane Murdock of Scotland.
