I am looking for information about Joseph Wilks born abt 1811 in St. Philip & St. Jacob Bristol. He has a younger brother illiam, Mother Mary nn a straw bonnet maker and possibly father William but not confirmed.
He was transported to Tasmania at 17 years of age and although I have a fairly complete history of his following his charge for burgulary - there is nothing prior to that date.
He is related to Sir Samuel Wilks who attended Queen Victoria and I am wondering if it is too far fetched to think that the family trimmed poor Joe off the family tree rather than have him taint the family name?
