1841 census Wolverhampton or Lapley
« on: Friday 01 January 10 16:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi All   :)

First of all best wishes for the New Year.  :D

I'd appreciate it if somebody could track down the following person for me:

John HEACOCK/HEYCOCK/HAYCOCK, son of Thomas Haycock, bricklayer
born 1781 Wheaton Ashton
bapt. 30 Dec 1781 Lapley
mar. 1) Unknown
mar. 2) Sarah CARTER 10 Nov 1839 (she a widow, he a widower) dau. of John Carter, locksmith

John is called a 'labouring gardner' the 1851 census and a 'gardner' at his son John's wedding to Susan Dickson in 1850.

I would love to find out if John sr had more sons and if he was living in W'hampton in 1841 already or still in Lapley and surroundings. Also, the name of his first wife would be appreciated very much.

I once found a John Haycock on the internet in connection to OSwestry (where John jr was born in 1816) but can't seem to find it anymore   :(

Any and all information is hugely appreciated!

the only Heacocks or variation of  living in Wheaton Aston Lapley in 1841 seem to be Robert and Lydia and children and a 60 year old Elizabeth who presumably is John the olders brother Thomass  widow.
cannot seem to find John in 1841.
John the younger is with the Dixons in 1851 at Caribbee Island Wolverhampton  and is at the same address in 1841 which I presume you have.

Hi,

My apologies for not responding sooner but we had a bit of a family emergency here. Chaos rules it seems  :(

The Elisabeth you mention probably is indeed Elisabeth Robinson who married Thomas Heacock. And I do have John jr's data from the 1841 and 1851 census.

It seems strange how elusive these people are, unless they were somewhere else and not in or around Staffordshire during the census takings. Funny how I seem to be the only one researching this family, nowhere else on the internet do I find any hits on any of the names in the family tree. That's for the Haycocks, anyway, some other branches are being research (Daborn, Prince).

Thanks for the information, I appreciate the gesture   ;D

Hello.
I'm a Haycock and I've always been told my ancestors came from Lapley and Wheaton Aston. It would be interesting to compare notes.

Hello lantyslee and welcome to RootsChat.

Milo(TreeDigger) has not been online here since January 2010, hopefully he still has the same email address and will receive notification of your post.

Modified to add:
I can see baptisms for children of a Thomas and Margaret HA(E)YCOCK at Lapley from as early as 1731, so in the area for some time.  :)
