COATS Family Bible
« on: Sunday 03 January 10 14:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have in my possesion a rather large leather bound Bible. The print date is 1806.

In the front the first entry is for a William Coats, Father of Thomas Coats christened Haydon Bridge Northumberland 1776.

The last entry is dated 03 Jan 1830 for a John Coats Esp Hill Haydon Bridge. I have had this for some time - the intruging thing is that it was found on the Isle of Man.

Is anyone related to this family?

Hi Terrance,

I am related to this Coats family. There are a couple of books written by an Australian Coat(e)s about  his branch of the family. I can send you a copies of the family trees, which can be traced back to about 1710. The family were farmers in the Haydon Bridge area and Esphill is the name of a farm near there. How the Bible got to the IoM I am not sure but it is possible that someone moved there from Northumberland.

Can you send me a scan or photo of the entries? Do you want to sell the Bible?

Best Regards

Stan Coats

Hi Terrance
I have to do 3 posts (this will be 2) before this system lets me send you a private message which can then contain an email address. Your email address was deleted. A photo image will do fine as Family Bibles are very large. I never managed to trace my mother's family bible even though I remember signing it when I was about 10!
Thanks for replying as this message board is not one I regularly check. Stan
