Paula; Bob Dawson lists " Ocean " ~ and a handful of derivatives ~ as a forename used by a good many Gypsy families, of which the Coopers are one  ;)

Ye got a horse?

With you asking about the Coopers, I wondered if ye had a nice, piebald Cob  ;)

I have. And I never tire of looking at others either  :)

If ye not getting too far, just plod on is my advice  ;) I've got 'Brick Walls' which I've had for years now. But, I'm quite content that I'll get through most of them, eventually.

This is honestly probably the best 'Gypsy' board on the net. 'Everyone' seems to turn up and drop in at some point. So, if ye have any that are really sticking in ye throat? Give them a mention. Ye never know  :)

Hello Paula, my grandmother was an Ocean (she married my grandfather Thomas Cooper) She was called Oshy, my grandfather called her Oshenny, Oceania, but the real spelling was Ocean. On her marriage certificate it comes up Oshenny as my grandfather gave the details.

All my Coopers seem to have conventional names. Except Georgeus, but that was back in 1600-something.
I didn't realise they were travellers 'til I sorted out why one family had alternate children in Kendal and Wrawby. On different sides of the country.  ???  Then I learned they were canal people.  :D
