Hi Annie

Lancashire is snowed under at the momenthence no reply. Not that you would know anything about snow. ;D

The records for Volunteers would be held in local ROs so it might be better to try the Lancs board. Sorry I can't be of more help.  :-\

Hello Annie,

Locked out then  ;D ;D

I would be 99% sure that they are one and the same.

I can't find anything on A2A for the Newton Volunteer Rifles in any of their guises.

Looking at FreeBMD there aren't any other Edmund C(urtis) Coopers. If there aren't any likely candidates in the census returns, then you're as good as home and dry.

Sussex: Satcher (Hamsey) and Gatton (East Grinstead)
Leicestershire: Pratt
South Wales: Evans (Neath)

I knew you'd come to the rescue Phil !!  :D :D

I have sent Steven Dowd an email in the hopes he might be able to point me in the right direction !

I checked the Lancashire RO to see if they had anything on them and also sent an email asking if I've missed anything !

Our Edmund is also on the band list ... I'm checking to see if there are any band pictures but I lucked out today I got a picture of him from an obituary (I posted it on the photo restoration board ... I was tickled to death with it !! ) ... now I have to find the obituary !!  ::) probably in a 1912 newspaper ... I'm checking the Lantern ... nothing yet but I'm still looking !!  :D

Thanks again ...

Annie

Hi Annie

The Newtown Rifle Volunteers ultimately became part of the 9th (TF) Battalion of the Liverpools. So I would also check Liverpool RO and the Kings Museum. It appears they only lasted three years as a separate entity before merging with the Liverpool Press Guards.

Here is the NA's guide to the Volunteers/TF etc - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=147

And it says this about post revival records - Records for the period following the Volunteer Force's revival in 1859 are very rare and for the most part are held in private collections or local record offices.
