census subscription offer intelligence (mods possible 'sticky'?)
« on: Monday 04 January 10 23:28 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone information on current ancestry.com.au or .co.uk discount subscriptions ? My subs are due end Jan '10

Also I wonderd if it would be a good idea to have a sticky for people to post any similar subscription intelligence

I joined { full subscription } July 2008 for a discounted $ 300. The renewal July 2009  cost $ 450. There was no cheaper option for this subscription.
Don't know if this helps  :D

Thanks alison - my best so far is .co.uk at A$154 converted compared to about A$170 on .com.au

I think my last was something ridiculous like A$70 with a magazine offer

These are for 'essentials' membership

Drodgers,

does  .co.uk allow you to access Australia such as census, immigration, convicts etc?

Mine was a cheap magazine offer sub last year and due to renew soon - at full price.  I bet they have another offer AFTER the ones we got last year are due again so we'll have paid the full whack.  You can call me cynical!!! LOL

if you are going worldwide sub, doing it at the US site costs A$324.  as against 445 on the oz site. i think i might ring them in oz about the difference.

I also took up the offer last year of a magazine offer for under $200.  This was for a world wide membership.  Received email recently for renewal of $450.  The Ancestry.uk seems to offer a better deal than Ancestry.au.  World wide membership is 155.44 pounds which converts to $269. The other membership types on Ancestry.uk are also much cheaper when compared to Australian site. Check carefully the type of things you want to do and match this with the type of membership that will do this.  The discount mentioned by perth tiger was 20%.

Useful replies - thanks.

I find it hard to compare exactly what each site offers.
Does UK worldwide have as good coverage of Australian records such as ekectoral rolls, convicts, immigration etc?

Just a word of warning......be careful if trying to take up a good offer through an overseas site......some time back I tried to take up a really good world wide offer special through the .com site. I'd converted it to Aussie dollars at the current rate, and it seemed a really good deal.

I came to pay, it kept coming up as what was advertised to Australians......much more expensive. Phone calls were made over a couple of weeks....but it seemed that because I lived in Australia, I had to pay the normal Australian world wide fee.

So I decided not to do it on a matter of principle.   ;)
