Please identify Henrietta Raymond / Burrand /Behrendt
« on: Tuesday 05 January 10 07:35 GMT (UK) »
I have Henrietta Raymond married to David Linton Nov.18 1893.
I have them on 1901 census living in Sheffield.
Henrietta gives place of birth as Germany about 1873
Marriage certificate gives fathers name as Henrich Carlos Raymond.
I keep coming with the surnames BURRAND and BEHRENDT.
Is there any way to trace her birth or to obtain a birth certificate?

ps. my instict is that this family changed their Surname.

thanks for any help.......bigjon

You won't be able to find a birth certificate unless you can trace where in Germany she came from.  Do you have the 1911 census for the family? (http://www.1911census.co.uk/ - maybe more clues there).

What was her occupation on the marriage certificate and the witness names?  Was her father's occupation given? What was her address and who was living there in the 1891 census?

Where do the names BEHRENDT and BURRAND come up in your family? There are Behrendts in Nottinghamshire from Germany; perhaps they could be relatives? Young women do not tend to emigrate by themselves; it is likely that she had family or friends in the same area.
Burrand could be an anglicised version of "Behrendt" or a misspelling of something like "Barrand"? A name similar to Raymond is "Reimund".
