Ian,
On the 1841 census Beaufort Square is shown under ED7; HO107/1366/14 Folio 42-44, Pages 19-23.
There appear to be 21 Households.
Enumerators Schedule also mentions Beaufort Square.

The 1861 census simply shows 'Square'. ED8 this time, and it is associated with Beaufort Ironworks.
This time there appear to be just 16 Households.
RG9/421844/p31-34
Hope this helps to nail it down; I haven't been scouting yet, but if this weather keeps up, I will have to find the time.
Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob

I have looked at the 1861 Census, at the schedule and the streets and I have no doubt that the area you are looking for is in Beaufort Ebbw Vale. Although most of the original streets have been knocked down the area that this centres around is the Waungoch district of Beaufort. The arrangement of some of the streets here are strange but down to the fact that they were built along a jig saw of tram lines. I think it would be more profitable for you to check this area out for Beaufort Square.
The link below doesn't mention Beaufort Square but does discuss the Waungoch district. It may be of interest.

Hope you find what your looking for.

All the best and happy hunting

Thanks Ian,
that's pretty decisive then; Beaufort Sq is in Beaufort, Ebbw Vale.
I guess it will not exist now, but I'll go and have a wander around.
Maybe I'l be able to find a photo in the library.
Thanks for the link.
Best wishes,
Rob

Hi Rob

If you are going to make enquiries, the Library in Tredegar (next to the town clock) is supposed to be the centre for local history and genealogy. Not been there myself but I'm told it's very good.

Hope you find what you are looking for and happy hunting

Ian
