1841 death certificate
« on: Wednesday 06 January 10 11:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi, can anyone tell me how much information would be on an 1848 death cert. for Monmouthshire.  Would there be a place of birth, and would there be the name of the person who registered the death.
Thanks,

Diana

Hi Diana

http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/deaths.htm

No provision was provided for place of birth on English & Welsh Death certificates - certainley not then, and I don't think now, either.

If by "registered' you mean informant, then yes, there is always that.

The above link is to a very informative website.

Cheers  :)

Ambly's right - except that current English certs DO ask for place of birth (not sure whether Welsh ones differ).

Hi AMBLY and Arranroots,  Thank you for the information.  Yes, I have a death cert. for my Dad from 1975, and they request a date and place of birth on that,  although 1975 is quite recent and I realise things may have been a lot different in 1848.  Also, that was in England, so I don't know if it was different in Wales.
Thanks, regards, Diana

BMD certificates in England and Wales contain the same information.  The format for each was pretty much the same from the beginning of civil registration in 1837 until 1969, when birth and death certificates were revised to give more detail.
