War Service Records UK
« on: Thursday 07 January 10 05:10 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Are there any War Service Records in the UK that would give explicit details of a serviceman's parents?
William Stephen RODD died in Greece on 24th October 1917.
Would this have received any recognition in the press at that time in Cardiff?
Joy

   Hi ....

the site  CWGC   gives him as brother to Mr B E Rodd of Roath Cardiff.

this would be that family in 1901..
  Roath  RG13/4980 F 18 P28

William Rodd hd m 41 housepainter employer   Glam Cardiff
Mary Rodd    wi m 35                                         Glam  Llantrissant
Wm S Rodd son u 9                                           Glam Cardiff
Bertie E Rodd son u 7                                        Glam Cardiff.

Most local papers carried details of war death that I have looked for however dates have varied as to when the news was recieved.

A lot of lads died of disease in Salonika malaria and the likes...On SDGW if it states "Died" it usually means illness or accident as opposed to "Killed in Action",Died of Wounds.

He alo served in France in 1915 and was entitled to 15 Star British War and Victory medals BUT on his Medal Index Card on Ancestry it alludes to the fact they may not have been issued
