In trying to get some lead to James through the Greenlaw family,  I have found the following children to Robert Aitchison and Isabella Greenlaw on the IGI:

Isabella - 1856, Coldingham
Elizabeth - 1858, Coldingham
Ann - 1860, Coldingham
Margaret - 1863,  Cocksburnpath
Helen - 1866, Cocksburnpath
Robet - 1868, Cocksburnpath
Also, from the 1881 census, Thomas, b.c. 1873

In 1881 the family, headed by Robert, aged 48,  is in Abbey St Bathans with Isabella Greenlaw, aged 82, mother in law. (Parish - 726, ED 1, Page 6)

Ann does seem to crop up quite regularly and I'm wondering if Ann Ford  was Isabella Dickson's mother.  Isabella is consistent with her age and place of birth in the censuses. It appears that her daughter, Isabella was dead before 1881 and Robert, the son in law,  might well have not given/not known the correct information when he acted as informant on Isabella, snr's death.

I don't see a link to Ann Paxton  :-\

looking for info on James Dickson. He eludes me, and I know virtually nothing about him.

This is getting needle and haystack stuff!

The only definite reference that I can find to James Di*son is on his daughter Isabella's death cert in 1882 where he is listed as a farm servant(deceased).

If the 1799 baptism in Coldingham is this Isabella (and all the info from censuses suggests this), then her mother is Ann Ford.

There is also this death/burial:

31 July 1838, Ayton (where Thomas Greenlaw and Isabella married):

Mortcloth for James Dickson, 5 shillings

Of course, this might not be him.

Thank you for your hard work trying to find James Dickson.
The Paris name was given to me by word of mouth a few years ago.
Also that James Dickson himself may have originally come from the Yester district of East Lothian..but i cannot confirm this.

Isabella born 22nd September 1799 and later married to Thomas Greenlaw is my Isabella.

Elizabeth Dickson married to Robert Aitchison is her sister and also on my line.

Robert Aitchison born at Oldhamstocks@ 1830, son of Robert Aitchison &
Elizabeth Dickson married Isabella Greenlaw daughter of Thomas Greenlaw & Isabella Greenlaw...his cousin.

I know that the dickson girls had a sister called Alison Dickson

Alison married Liddle Nairn . She was born at Coldingham 8th june 1806
daughter of James Dickson and Anne Ford.

This is all the information i have on James Dickson. As you can see nothing really about James himself.

Again, thanks for all your hard work

Regards

You might well have this but for confirmation of mother's name :

Death - 7 Oct 1891, Coldingham

Elizabeth Aitchison, widow of Robert Aitchison, ploughman. Aged 85.

Parents - James Dickson, hedger and Ann m.s. Ford both deceased.

Was there a mistake with the Paxton surname?

there very well could be? I was given a lot of info re the Dickson tribe/clan by word of mouth. Being a amatuer, i knew little of comuters
and when my previous computer crashed i lost lots of my family info.
I might add that i still know very little about comuters ha.

Paris was a name that cropped up..either Anne or Elizabeth, possibly the wife of James Dickson?

I appreciate your gallant efforts.

Many thanks
