Can any one tell me, if the father's of the couple getting married always states if they are deceased.Every thing I find about Eliza Hickling b1863 Leicester fits except her father. Her mother was a widow from the 1871 census.Rgards Row

Definitely not! The question was supposed to be asked, but frequently, it seems, it wasn't. I spent ages searching for an ancestor on the basis that he wasn't stated to be deceased on his daughter's marriage certificate. Then I discovered that he had died over ten years previously  >:(

I've had this problem too.  An ancestor supposedly alive at his son's wedding in February 1883 and deceased at his other son's wedding in September 1883 and he actually died in October 1870  :(.   So I suppose if it says deceased it would probably be right (because the question was asked) but if it doesn't he could be alive or dead  ::).

And my grandmother's marraige certificate clearly stated that her father is deceased, whereas he actually lived for another 16 years after she married!

So you can't rely on it being correct whether it says he was deceased or not.
