Exporting GEDCOM
« on: Saturday 09 January 10 18:48 GMT (UK) »
I need help exporting a GEDCOM from Genes and putting it onto Ancestry
On the genes website it says if you export a GEDCOM you lose all the photos on the tree. Does this mean the original tree on Genes Reunited or the exported tree?
It sends the file to your email address. How do you get the file from your email address to ancestry.com.

Any help appreciated.
Please let me know if theirs an easier way.
Yours Christina ???

hi christina
i have just sent one on to genes, so i expect it will be the same from genes.
when you export from genes the original should stay the same. you will lose the pics on the exported one.
i dont know about putting it on to ancestry but it should be the same. why not try exporting to a fh software prog on your comp then exporting from there to ancestry.
or save the ged to your documents from the email then when you browse from ancestry you will have it ready.

perth :) :)

A GEDCOM file is a text file.  It won't contain anything other than the names, DOB's and family relationships of the people in your family tree.   Photos and stories that you have uploaded to Genes will not be included in the GEDCOM file, so you will have to upload them to Ancestry separately.
