Mining Deaths 1891 NSW
« on: Sunday 10 January 10 00:58 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know of any info on line for mining accidents in 1891 in the Silverton area.

I have a death for someone whose death is registered at Silverton in 1891 and he is on the NSW  records Intestate Estate Case Papers Indexes online as dying without a will in 1891 district of Stringers Hill

Many Thanks

Have you had a look for any newspaper reports, or a death notice? http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home

Hi SueChris,
Would you tell us his name please.

There may be ways to find out his cause of death, but some details may be needed :D

Hi, his name is William Edward MERCER. He was born in Kent in 1869, arrived in Sydney in August 1881. I do not know for sure that this is him but I have not found another suitable death that could be him. His father is down as a miner on some of his family's certificates.

Thanks

I see the death you are referring to now.
In the resources available to me, there is not an inquest for that name in 1891.
I do not have an inquest listing for the following year.

What makes you think his death was by accident?
Just that he was young at death  perhaps?

His family would have been travelling with him in 1881, do you have their place of living, once settled in Australia, or other details?

Purchasing the death certificate may be the only way to be quite sure you have your right man.

Hi thanks for checking your inquest records. Yes the family were in Sydney, mother died in 1883 father remarried in 1885. Ordering this death cert mayl tell me if it is the right one. Mother's name is correct on the NSW BMD but father's name is incorrect but from experience this is quite common with the infomant simply giving the wrong details. It depends how much of the other info is given correctly or incorrectly too. The reason I think it may be him is I haven't found another death that could be him, various info has allowed me to discount other possibilities. His father and uncle were mining for a few years, it's just a hunch that it could be him.  He may not have died from an accident I just thought he may have being in that area. Thanks for your help.
