How cool is that ?

Thanks Ruskie !  :)

Sister Ellen Savage was the only Nursing Sister from the 12 on board to survive, they spent 35 hours drifting on rafts before being found by a RAAF Anson aircraft, who homed the US Destroyer Mugford to their rescue. Ellen Savage although badly wounded herself, assisted other survivors to have her heroism later rewarded with a George Medal.

Hi Annie,
Thanks for the piccy. I must say I didn't know much about this event till I heard that they thought they knew where the ship was, and located it very quickly at the end of last year.

It was awful all those nurses died ... we were working on a project about them a couple of years ago ...
I'm sure I have a picture of Ellen Savage somewhere ... I'll see if I can find it ... if somebody doesn't already have one !  :)

I have a pic of Ellen Savage, somewhere, if you need it Annie (have to dig around a bit  ::) )

My father was one of the very few survivors of the Centaur.

I'm pleased they have located the wreck. It will bring closure for many families.

I don't know that I'd call it exciting Ruskie but it certainly is interesting to see actual pictures of the ship - albeit at a depth of 2 klms. She (the Centaur) appears to be in remarkably good condition considering the time she's been down there.

Yes, possibly wrong choice of word there Di.  :-[ I was implying that it was exciting that your father had survived. Couldn't think of another word at the time.  :-\

One of my partner's great uncles survived the sinking of the Lusitania and only a couple of weeks later was on another ship back to America. That must have been a difficult journey to embark upon ...
