Scottish marriage
« on: Sunday 10 January 10 14:32 GMT (UK) »
My parents, though English, were married in 1933 in a manse in Inverary, Scotland. I can find no trace of this on ancestry. Is there anywhere else I can look? I tried the only bmd I could find, in Fife, but drew a blank.

You need to have a look on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  Once you have registered, it is free to search but you have to pay to view certs.  Although I think that a marriage that recent might have to be ordered from the GROS, but the site will tell you that .

Just within the date you can view the image on line (current cut off for marriage is now 1934)  :)

Hi Poppea,

ScotlandsPeople costs £6 for 30 credits, with each viewed image normally using 6 credits [1 for the search and 5 to view the image].

However, for a Scottish marriage certificate this would be money well spent, in my view, as you'll get the names, ages, residences and occupations of the marrying couple, plus the names of both sets of parents (normally with occupation of father) and whether the parents were alive at the time of the marriage.  You'll also get the date and place of the marriage and the celebrant, plus names of witnesses.

Best wishes

Thank you for being so helpful. I've the search and just one item has appeared, which I haven't yet viewed. I'll do the rest today.
