Alison/Robert Henderson

More help needed.

I'm seeking marriage of Robert Henderson approx. 1816 (maybe to a Janet Hogg).  They had a child named Alison born approx. 1818 (who's birth I also seek).  Alison married William Duncan on 9/11/1838 at Pencaitland and they Emmigrated to Australia in 1853.

I do have that from the IGI but was needing to know how I can confirm it and prove they are my Alison Hendersons parents.  What are you thoughts.

The entry showing for the marriage of Robert Henderson and Janet Hogg on IGI is showing on the Old Parish Registers on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Children showing to them include (all christening dates and in Gladsmuir):

James - 05 OCT 1817
Alison - 20 JUN 1819
James - 22 JUL 1821
Janet - 20 JUN 1819
 
These are all showing as entries on the OPRs at Scotlands People.

The names used by William Duncan and Alison would support the naming order of children and parents Robert and Janet (Janet/John/Robert - from their 1851 entry).

For the definitive proof, that might be harder. Have you searched for Alison's death cert in Australia to see what it says about her parents? Also, did any of Alison's children use any family surnames for middle names for their children? All usefull clues.

Hi Julie, wozzle and Monica,

I can't find any of William and Alison's children showing on the OPRs at SP. I was hoping Alison's father or brothers, etc, would show as witnesses on one of their christenings. There was a Free Church that started in Pencaitland in 1843 - possibly they attended there instead?

The only thing I did find was a possible entry in 1841 for Robert and Janet Henderson:

Janet Henderson, f, 44, -, b. in county
James Henderson, m, 19, engineer, b. in county

PS. I notice William and Alison's son, John, does show on the IGI. It is an extracted entry from [probably] the Free Church records of nearby Tranent.

Thank you all for your replys.

The scottish mining website is fantastic (so much info.).

William Duncans death cert. only states father John and Alisons death cert. does not have any parents listed.  Their childrens names have Henderson and also Fulton as middle names.

I'm having trouble getting access to Scotland People but will keep trying (does not seem to like my credit card).  Could someone please explain how, on the IGI they get a "submitted entry" with no film to view and where would they get the info. from in the first place.

I still have a lot to learn.
