Birth records from Coatbridge
« on: Monday 11 January 10 14:51 GMT (UK) »
We have found 'evidence' of a birth in Coatbridge in 1876 on the 1891 census on Ancestry but cannot pull up any birth records for him on Scotland's People. Is it likely to be wrongly transcribed surnames or may there be other reasons for not being able to find him? We have been looking for Patrick McAuley born 1876 Coatbridge to parents John McAuley and Margaret (nee Griffin) both born in Ireland, living  35 N B Buildings 'Ellis' buildings'.

Thanks for your response. We have tried to use Scotland's people and tried to find the record that you found but with no luck. What do the * stand for? Were you looking in the other records section under Catholic Parish Registers?

There appears to have been another Patrick McAuly born in 1876, Coatbridge.

From the 1881 Census:

Living at 86 Buchanan Street, Old Monkland

John McAuly, Head, Iron Puddler, age 39, born Paisley
Mary McAuly, wife, age 36, born Coatbridge
James McAuly, son, scholar, age 7 born Coatbridge
Patrick McAuly, son, age 4, born Coatbridge

Also living with this family were:Patrick Croal, Uncle, Iron Puddler, age 52, widower, born Ireland

Many thanks for your help. We have accessed the record and now have Patrick's DoB and the correct name of his mother. Now we just have to crack the Irish part of it   ???

Thanks for looking. We have seen this family before and it's the wrong one. There's no shortage of McAuley's in Coatbridge.

Did John and wis wife marry in Ireland?

Viewing the birth record on SP should give a date and location of marriage
