So you are not therefore thinking there may be 2 families as first post implies.
I think we have enough evidence to say there is just one.

But that the one family may have had 2 children, John William bn 1850 who was known as William and then another one a couple of year later?

In the absence of an obvious death for John William, and subsequent birth for a second William, I would say this is unlikely.

I wouldnt worry too much about the slight discrepancy in age. He is stated to be 30 on 1881 census I see, so that fits in with his birth in 1850 (obviously not had his 31st yet in 1881, but must be coming up soon after census).

So what age does he give at the marriage? He would actually be either 22 or 23 dpeending on whether the marriage was before or after his birthday. Of course the cert may just say 'over 21' or 'off full age' . Or he may have said to the registrar 'It's OK I'm 21' meaning 'over 21' and he wrote down 21.

currenttly what I have is two families and would like to prove or disprove that they are one and the same, rather than make a guess. Thats why I'm keen to find them on the 1861/ 1871 censuses
Williams age at marriage in jun 1873 was 21, hers 20

Sorry, thought we had sorted that.

The John William born 1850 and Chr 1850 was from Caroline Court. His parents were Joseph and MAry nee Flynn.

The William is in Caroline Court in 1851, age 1, therefore born 1850, with parents Joseph and Mary.

The William is no 1881 census age 30, with wife Ann

The marriage cert of William to Ann states his father was Joseph.

There is no where where there are two families of Joseph and Mary Rixons seen.

There is no death of John Wiliam, or birth of another William.

Yes I too would love to see the family on 1861/71 to confirm even more. But despite trying all the 'tricks of the trade' they have remained elusive!

So what else can you tell us about Elizabeth?

terrific!
good spot on that one-looks as though the enumeratior corrected the spelling to rixson. Definitely the right family. John John/ William is not there-though William Rixon has moved to no 26 with his wife  by 1876. I wonder if I'll have to resort to browsing the images on the 1871

thanks lizdb
that was just what I needed to spur me on
I still haven't found William or Joseph/ Mary in the 1871, but another piece of the puzzle which makes the link much stronger

Joseph/ mary also had a daughter mary Rixon b 1846. She married Robert Hudson. By looking through the 1871 street by street, I've found these two living next door to 15 year old Annie Kemp.
Two years later, this is the rellie who married the William Rixon at the centre of all this, passing herself off as 20. he must have met her whilst visiting Mary Hudson (nee Rixon)
