Yes, but in that particular case, the eldest/closest NoK had, and did, give permission for the records to be requested - the MoD forms have a section for that situation.

as the application form states:

Quote
In the first 25 years from the date of death information from the personal record of deceased Ex Service Personnel can be released only to the official Next of Kin, or with the consent of the official Next of Kin.

Hi Papa1

I think things have changed since you got your cousins records, its now 30GDP and the form NOK have to complete would immediately indicate that you were not NOK.

Well that is a possibility Andy, I applied for the service record about 8 years ago and the medals even less.
Copies of the service record were sent to the archivist of 207 Squadron.

I fully respect and understand what KYT said about NOK.

For my part, although my Dad was not the oldest sibling still alive....l typed a letter to go with the next of kin form........Please allow my son to have my Brothers service records etc.....something like that...and asked my Dad to sign it.
There was 3 or 4 weeks to wait and a £30 charge but it was definitely worthwhile.

Good luck and dont give up.

Steve. ;)

I certainly think its worth a go, all they can say is no anyway.
But I would try it on the lines as Welwyn did and get your dad to sign the letter

So why don't you order up your own copy of his death certificate? Ok it will cost, but it sounds like to key to what you want.
