ages on census aren't always reliable -on 1851 census Mary was 50!!!

james would not have been baptised to them in name of Richards if he was illegit

However if mary was born 1897 she would have been 18 when James was born - so it's possible she could have married when she was 16

I would widen the range of the search for a marriage

Maybe someone has parish records  for St Marys - that may be worth first look for a marriage

Good thinking there....will check for another marriage date...
If it is of any use to other  researchers .....John Richards married Amelia Roberts 20 June 1871..Amelia was born in Harroldstone, Pembrokeshire 29 july 1818. Amelias mother and father were William and Elizabeth.

Apologies for late reply, only just returned from research trip to France.
James Richards married Mary Edwards at Lambston in 1811.
Possible brother to James just may be William Richards who married Mary John at Lambston in 1807
For future reference
George Richard(no 's') mrd Honour Sayce at Lambston in 1757.
William Mathias mrd Jennet Richards at Lambston 1790

Anthony
You do understand I hope that the mrge you seek of James Edwards took place at Lambston Parish Church and not at Haverfordwest St Mary as you appear to have expected  ???

Hi,
St.marys was chosen because later in life Mary lived there....but Mary was born in Lamston so she was probably living there when she married..it is no surprise to see marriage lines at Lamston Parish..again many thanks for the info.

Haverfordwest 19th century jobs

Hi,
During the 1800's a number of my male relatives worked as 'masons' or 'stone masons' ....any idea what these jobs would have entailed, or where these people might have worked. They all lived in the St.marys ansd St.Martins areas in Haverfordwest
