Have you tried the Local Archives for copies of local newspapers, at that time most local papers would have had a "crime/court" page.
If not living local contact local council or look on council website to see if they have a research facility, there is usually a fee for this about £25.00 but I have done this in the past when too far from home & have found this most useful.  In one instance the abount of information from papers that I received was far more than I could ever have expected.  They had trawled all the local papers for me (this was Bournemouth).
I have used Essex Council as well.:)
Fleming (Bristol) Fowler/Brain (Battersea/Bristol)    Simpson (Fulham/Clapham)  Harrison (W.London, Fulham, Clapham)  Earl & Butler  (Dublin,New Ross: Ireland)  Humphrey (All over mainly London) Hill (Reigate, Bletchingly, Redhill: Surrey)
Sell (Herts/Essex/W. London)
