1861 Census - Richard Montague Rees
« on: Tuesday 12 January 10 14:41 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace Richard Montague Rees in the 1861 census.

Richard was born in 1844 in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, son of John Hughes Rees and Isabella.    He is recorded in 1851, aged 6 with his parents, numerous siblings and an army of servants (HO107/2473 Folio 298 Page 20)

Richards parents are found in 1861 but Richard is not at home (RG9/4115 Folio 9 Page 14) .    The family is living in Kilymaenllwyd Carmarthenshire.

I have Richard's census for 1871, now married and living in Birmingham.   I also have his census records 1881-1901.

Grateful for help in finding Richard in 1861.

Hello,

My first thought would be that he was away at school perhaps?

There is a Richard Rees b Llanelly here:
1861 :  RG9; Piece: 4108; Folio: 49

Yes, being at boarding school could well explain Richard's absence from home.    Could I trouble you for the school name and location.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi,
it's quite odd because all the census sheets are 'home made' - just written on a piece of paper. There are just lists of names-no ages or places of birth so presumably there is another 'half' page somewhere. Maybe the local archives could help.
The school is Thistleboon House Oystermouth and the registration district is Gower.

best wishes

Hi

Did anyone continue their research into Richard Montague Rees and Killymaenllwyd after this? I have been researching for 2 years now as he was my great great grandfather. I have lots of information and documents relating to him, his siblings and descendants in my line, which is Richard Montague Rees / Elyder George Rees / George Ellis Rees /  Gordon Ellis Rees / Brian Edward Rees (me). I am happy to share everything I have,

Regards

Brian
