Hearn name
« on: Wednesday 13 January 10 11:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I notice that the Hearn name comes up with Jewish connections, my Great Grandmothers name is Rachel Hearne.  She was Romani Gypsy.  Does any body have any info regarding this connection? Thanks.

Hi   Nomadhearne,
Welcome to RootsChat.

According to "The Oxford Names Companion" Hearn is either 1. English, and a variation of Heron, or 2. English and a topographic name for someone who lived by a bend in a river or in a recess in a hill, both of which are the meanings of the Middle English herne (Old English hyrne), or 3. English habitation name from Herne in Bedfordshire.
Variations are Hearne, Hern(e), Hurn(e), Harn, Hernaman, Herniman, Harniman, Horniman, and Hurman.
Not Jewish.  :)

Hi,
Do you have a date and place of birth for Rachel?
Where and to whom did she marry?
If we can find a christening it might confirm her Religion.

Trish :)
