1841 census lookup
« on: Tuesday 15 March 05 19:34 GMT (UK) »
I'm searching for the WILSON family in Burwash, Sussex in the 1841 census. In particular William Wilson aged 47 (+- 2 years), he should be married to Elizabeth and they should have about 9 children:
Robert (times 2)
Elizabeth
Matilda
Frances
Maria
Charlotte
Harriet
Emily

Cheers
Sam

Grace
Goldfinch
Sharpe
Owen
Franks
Brown
Sibley
Northcott
Wilson

I'm sorry, I could't find any Wilsons in Burwash in 1841.  However, the returns are very messy - great swathes crossed out, some ommissions noted and added elsewhere (as far as I can make out).  I think I did manage to look at everything in the end.

Good luck!

hi Sam

There are 3 Wilson families listed in the 1841 census for Burwash, but I think this is the one you want:-

HO107/ 1108/ 2 - Testers Farm, Burwash

WILSON William, 45, Farmer
............  Elizabeth, 40
............  Robert, 20, Carpenter
............  Maria, 15
............  Frances, 15
............  Charlotte, 12
............  Harriott, 8
............  Emily, 5
............  Matilda, 2
............  Mary, 75
DANN John, 70, Thatcher

Hope that fits in with your research

Where am I going wrong, Chris.  I've looked through HO107/1108 again and still can't find the Wilsons (or Testers Farm).  Am I missing something?  Am I going daft (don't answer that)?  I'm worried that I may have missed other people when answering other posts.

hi there Dimps

I dont know where you are going wrong - but whose cd's are you using or are you looking at a film or fiche?

Its HO107/ 1108/ 2 and then Schedule 24, Page 8

but the kids do spill over on to page 9 though.

Am I going daft (don't answer that)?    - sorry, cant answer that as I dont know you well enough yet ;D

Looks to me as though you are doing a pretty good job of answering queries

Chris

Found them!

I'm really worried now.  How many more have I missed, I wonder.

My eleven-year-old son seems particularly adept at reading "ye olde scripte" - perhaps I should get him involved more often.

I'm using CDs by "UK Census", bought on Ebay (but can be bought direct).  Muvva and I are experiencing the same promblems - some pages appear to have been poorly scanned.
