The Kennedys of Northumberland
« on: Thursday 14 January 10 10:14 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am looking for anyone who can help me fill out my family tree of Kennedys.

My Great Grandfather was WILLIAM KENNEDY(2) who was born in about 1859 at Woodhouse or Morpeth.
His father was WILLIAM KENNEDY(1) who was born in 1824 at Stamfordham and he married SARAH FORSTER who was born in 1830 at Newbiggin.
My Great Grandfather, William(2), married JANE ANDERSON who was born in 1864 at Newcastle upon Tyne and they had children : Sarah Jane 1889 at Dunston, William born Hexham, George and possibly two other daughters.
William(1) and Sarah had children: Mary 1854 born Woodhouse, Thomas 1856 Woodhouse/North Seaton, My William, Robert 1861 Morpeth, John 1852 Morpeth, George 1869 Morpeth and Sarah 1874.
That is all I know. CAN ANYONE HELP?
Thank you,
David

William and Sarah have a younger child, George aged 2 and another son John age 19 with them in 1871.  Mary is not there.  In service perhaps?

Wow,
Thank you for your wonderful information sillgen, I am impressed and grateful. ;)
I will look into the 1911 Census to come up to date so to speak. However, I don't know how to go back further from 1941 Census? That is where I am really stuck now.

There's a possible marriage for William and Sarah:

Marriages Sep 1851
FORSTER    Sarah         Newcastle T    25   327
Kennedy    William         Newcastle T    25   327

Why don't you get the marriage certificate then you'll at least have the name of William's father.

Also you could go through the Stamfordham BDT's to see if you can see any Kennedy's - 1824 is missing unfortunately but you could look through the earlier pages, from about page 226ish.

The Newbiggin transcripts also have Sarah Forster daughter of John & Mary of Newbiggin, baptised on 7th November 1830. He was a brewer.

The IGI also have submitted records which could be checked through the Bish Durham Transcripts of siblings for Sarah:
Mary, chr 12/2/1826 Woodhorn
William, chr 10/2/1828 Woodhorn
Isabella, chr 16/9/1832 Newbiggin
John, chr 20/7/1834 Newbiggin
Mary, chr 23/4/1837 Newbiggin
Jane, chr 14/7/1839 Newbiggin

Parish registers are the answer to pre 1837 research and TracyW has found some for you.   If you live near an LDS family history centre (listed on www.familysearch.org) then you can get the film of most parishes to look at there.  The IGI on the same site is a good starting point for that era too but it is not full coverage and you have to be very wary of member submitted records which maybe just guesswork.   Extracted records are usually OK but looking at the original is best.   Have a look at the tips on the Beginners' Board for other hints.
