John Boardman born c1834 in Bolton Lancs to Lucy Boardman
Marry's Mary Maria Fitzpatrick in Cheshire 1860
He states on marriage cert as his Father is James Seddon a rail way inspector, I have no idea were to look next.
Think it will be one of those that you will never know

PS lucy did not marry James Seddon, she later marries John Yates

I agree it is a shame. Yes James would still be your 3x gt grandfather but which James Seddon. He could be single or could be married, you could speculate but never be sure. I looked on the National Archives / A2A website hoping for a bastardy order but couldn't see one but even these don't give much information to pinpoint someone.
