Lost Ancestor
« on: Friday 15 January 10 15:36 GMT (UK) »
I have been searching for one of my ancestors for  quite a while and have lost track of her. She was b1822 as Ann Oldfield (Parish records) Married 1845 (Certificate obtained, now Richardson) found in the 1851 census with two children, then found she had changed her forename to Sarah Ann in the 1861, 1871, 1881,censuses
She was widiwed in 1885 (Named on Husbands Death Certificate)
I cannot find her in the 1891 census and have checkad through to 1922 for her death but without success. Maybe she got remarried but I do not know how to go further with wth search I have checked for a marriagein the  name of Richardson but I am unable to verify any detail
Can anyone offer advice or guidence

Thanks  lizdb.  She was born in Huddersfield (Kirkburton) she had  one son and three daughters She had two of the children  before the 1851 census  and was still known as Ann This is the reason I have been able to trace her through  the61,71& 1 census because of the names of the children evn though she had changed hers

Have you traced the children through the censuses? And got them on 1891? Is she with them?

(to explain what I am getting at, for example, there is a Mary Kent, said to be married, with a 68 yr old mother, bn H'field,  Sarah Ann Kent at RG12 3570 16 26. If she really is mother and Mary really is married then they wouldnt both have surnamr Kent and there is an error somewhere - should she be Richardson? That is just an example, I am sure there are others similar.)

If you want help following the children to see if that leads to the mum, then do give their details, names, pob dob and what you know already about them re marriages etc.

Yes I have traced the children through various census Thats what made me convinced that Ann had become Sarah Ann. Traced the remaing child right through to  1881  just before her husband died in 1886 I can only think that  Sarah ann remarried
I did find a Sarah Ann Richard who died but was 1n 1893 but registered as  a widow of Issac  but that does not appear in anything I have followd through so I have dismissed it for noe

Hi mycar and welcome to Rootschat  :)

Are you sure that Ann and Sarah Ann are the same person?  Do they have the same dob and pob?

For example, in 1851 I can see an Ann Richardson b1822 Kirkburton, with husband Robert and children Rose Hannah bc1846 and Richard William bc1850.  Is that them? (HO107 2295 963 3)

The same husband and children are with wife Sarah Ann bc1828 ?Crosland Yorkshire, and two other children Caroline ?Hurst  bc1851 (recorded as daughter in law to Robert ie daughter of his spouse but not his) and Jane Ann Richardson bc1860 Huddersfield. (RG9 3268 4 2)  (Added: in 1861)

In which case Ann would either have died or disappeared somewhere between 1851-1861 and Robert would have remarried to a Sarah Ann ?Hurst who already had a daugher Caroline.

Kind regards
Gaie

Ebenezer Holmes appears in later censuses with a wife Betty, so that leaves Robert Richardson marrying Sarah Ann Hirst.

Did Caroline marry?  If so, under what surname and what was the name of her father on the marriage cert?
