I hope this isn't a complete red herring and you will want to verify the info from some other source but on the IFHF site there is an Ann Cope born in 1828 in Bray, Co Wicklow. Father's name Henry.
In the 1891 census Wm & Ann, living in Grangetown, Eston, Yorkshire have a son Henry.
In the 1901 census Ann is a widow and her brother John Cope is living with her. His age is given as 50 while Ann is 70. In Bray records there is a John Cope, father's name Henry, born in 1845.
Finally, in Bray Catherine Scully born 1859, father's name William

Could this be your family  :-\

This sounds really promising, I had forgotten about John Cope being on the later census with Ann so I'm so grateful you took the time to do some digging and found all this. I will definately keep chipping away at this trail and see if I can confirm it for sure.
Thank you so much.

I think Shanew147 is right about getting the marriage cert., if it confirms that Ann's father was Henry then you can be more confident that the Bray, Co Wicklow records are a possibility.
If this turns out to be the correct family then Henry Cope was renting a house & garden from the Earl of Meath in the townland of Ballynamuddagh, civil parish of Bray c.1850 on Griffiths Valuation www.askaboutireland.ie

Hi All.

I'm back to this family again. I have obtained the marriage certificate of the marriage in 1858 in England and I do believe it to be the correct couple.

the details are:

Marriage cert date: fourth july 1858
name & surname: William Scully & Ann ?Cope
age: 23 years & 24 years
condition: batchelor & spinster
profession: labourer in ? & none
residence at time of marriage: Lower East Street?, Middleborough & South Street, Middleborough
Fathers' names: Thomas Scully & Henry Cope
Profession of fathers: Farm labourer & Farm Labourer

Having re-read the thread, especially Agho's latter findings of the families in Co Wicklow I do believe we might be on to something.
The couple have sons both named Thomas and Henry which match both of their fathers names. The ages are as close to accurate as one can get when one starts with census ages and the details Agho found with the various births in Co. Wicklow look as close to perfect as one could possibly ask for.

Now if I can just find the same details on IFHF I can start climbing over the rubble that was a brick wall and see what's on the other side of it :) :)

Everything is lining up. I got the baptisms for Ann and John. Their mother was called Jayne. The second daughter of William and Ann's was called Jane. The first son was Thomas Henry Scully (after both fathers). So I'm guessing William's mother was called Catherine, hence the first daughter being a Catherine.

Thanks to everyone that helped crack this and kept encouraging me along the way. I owe you all.
