Hi

Please can anyone help me with a Baptism/Christening for Elizabeth Potter 1806c in Jersey

She married George Walker in 1823 in Nottingham.

Any information would be very much appreciated. Dates /Parents /Family

Hi Judi

Having gone through all of the baptisms in all 12 Parishes I had drawn a blank. The only Potter was for a Barbara Ann.

I then thought I would have a look at "Register of Marriages, Christenings and Burials of Troops in the Garrison in Jersey", and bingo!!

Elizabeth Potter was Christened 7th July 1805 to Thomas and Mary Potter. However, I don't know where she was Christened.

Knowing her parents I could then see other children. Barbara Ann, 10th May 1807, who I had seen in the St Helier Church Baptisms, and Thomas 10th June 1809.

It might be worth trying to establish which Regiment the father was with and trying to work out where he enlisted. I can see a Thomas Potter in the Waterloo Medal Roll serving with 15th (or Kings) Regiment of Hussars, but whether this is the same one would require further research. There is also one on the Peninsula Medal Roll 1793-1814 serving with the 90th Foot. As he was in Jersey for a number of years (1805 to 1809) the Regiment shouldn't be too hard to find.
