Ace Smith
« on: Wednesday 16 March 05 00:25 GMT (UK) »
I need someone to help me find my greatgreatgrandfather's wife and parents.  I know the relative location and some of his children and grandchildren.

His name was Ace Smith. He was in Georgia in 1884.
He had two sons (that we know of)
James Parker Smith (8 Aug 1884 -  4 Jun 1959)
Walter Bowers Smith (11 Sep 1887 - 26 Nov 1963)

James Parker married Lity May Dove, listed in some census records as Lida or Lida Mae)
James and Lity moved to Iredell County, North Carolina by the late 1920's.
They had 8 children.  3 girls, 5 boys.

Walter Bowers married Jessie E Bond. They moved to North Carolina as well. They had at least 4 children. 2 girls, 2 boys.

As an unpaying member of ancestry.com I have some access to the 1880 census. There are very few Ace Smiths listed. I just need to know which is mine. I can already tell you that it isn't Ace Smith, son of Violet Smith of Town, Newton, Georgia. They are listed as being black. I'm not black, and neither is anyone in my family. So that's a given that that's not the right one. Also the Ace Smith from Oakdale, Stanislaus, California is too old and too far away)

eta (May 1, 2011) - Walter was apparently really named William Bowers. Why my family knew him as Walter, I have no idea.

I found WILLIAM Bowers Smith's death certificate and on it, his parents names.
Asa Oliver Smith and Margaret Saylors.

Sorry to say I'm not having much luck with Ace either.
Do you know his year/place of birth?
Do you know the name of his wife?

This may help to narrow him down.

No. What I have posted is all I know of him.
My line is...
Ace Smith
James Parker Smith and Lity May Dove
Glenn B. Smith and V. Doris ____ (still alive)
G. Teresa ___ and Michael L. _____
Me.

However, I was raised to believe that Glenn's sister, Molly Jo (still alive) was my greatgrandmother. She was one year old when James, Lity and some other of her siblings moved to North Carolina. I'm guessing Ace died in Georgia. She doesn't remember anything about him or who his wife was. My guess is that Ace's wife died before My Granny Jo was born.
I was hoping you could use James and Walter as reference points.
