Churches in Tonge,Middleton,Lanc

I have a bit of a problem,I have my G.Grandparents Marriage Cert.and it only says The Parish Church in the parish of Prestwich,the only church I know in Tonge is St Michael's,They lived in Tonge at the time of their marriage,the Rector was Henry Mildred Birch,
Can anyone help Please.
I am Looking for William & Emma,Elizabeth,William Gertrude and Eileen  Moon,Joseph & Sarah Hall,Dale,Sproston,Smith,William & Jean Kemp

Hi,

The Parish church of Prestwich was St. Mary the Virgin, Prestwich.  Henry Mildred Birch the Rector was quite an important person and listed at one time as Rector of the Parish of Prestwich and Oldham. 

One way of finding out is to go to www.lancashirebmd.org.uk and enter the details for the marriage it should give you the church they married at.

:)I have looked this up and I have also found a St Mary's The Virgin in Oldham which comes under the same parish which would make a lot more sense than going all the way to Prestwich from Tonge.Could anyone tell me if I am going the right way!!

has the marriage been transcribed on Lancs BMD as suggested by Mo above?  We can't check ourselves as you have not given any names

The church in Oldham is St. Mary not St. Mary the Virgin.

Yes it is now just called st Mary's but was St Mary's the Virgin.Their names where John Thomas Hall and Harriet Kershaw
