1851/1861 census North Cheshire
« on: Wednesday 16 March 05 00:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

Can anyone find Colin Foster in the 1851 census - he was born in 1847 in Liverpool.

Together with his father and son these seem to be the only Colin Fosters.

Also would like to find him in 1861 before his marriage in 1869 when he was living in Dove Street, Windsor, Liverpool.

There is a James Foster born in Cheshire in 1849 according to later census records.

Their parents are Colin and Susan Foster who were born in Scotland.

There is no record of them in Liverpool, so think they must be somewhere in Cheshire - but where!!??

Any help - even in the negative, so I can at least narrow my search - would help.

Cheers

Keith

Hi Keith
Found them in Tranmere in 1851, had a look in the same area in 1861 but could not see them.

HO107-2175-F 908  Queens Place St Catherines parish Tranmere

Colin Foster head 38 tailor foreman   born Scotland
Susan          wife  34                                     ~
John            son    10                                   Liverpool
Susan         daug  8                                      ~
Colin           son    4                                      Tranmere
James         son    1                                      Liverpool
Sarah Carsel servant 24                                ~

I think the census transcriber may have mixed the birth places a little.

Hi Peter,

That's GREAT - thank you.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

And a new son John - where did he come from??  - and where did he go to??

Right - a bit more detective work for me!!

Pity they only put down Scotland again for the parents birthplace - that's a big place to look for them!!

Thanks again

Keith

Hi Peter and All,

You kindly found my Fosters for me in the 1851 census - thanks again.

Have since found the elder Foster again in 1871 - which I have attached.

As you can see there is a person - probably a daughter aged 28 - but to me that looks like Lydia[?] - anyway nothing like Susan - have found on BMD a Louisa Foster born in Liverpool in 1842, but before I order the certificate would like to see if I am looking for the wrong person!!

These Foster are causing me trouble!!
I wish Colin would tell me where in Scotland he was born as well!!

Cheers

Keith

Can't add an attachment!!
