What do I do now to find people, stalled
« on: Monday 18 January 10 17:21 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone, I need some advice
I have been tracing back my wifes family and a couple of trails have gone cold.
One example is that on the 1911 cencus I have a family ,man, wife and 4 children.
Johnson Crawforth (Born 1861) married Sarah Elizabeth Crawforth Nee Wilkinson(Born 1874) in 1898. We sent off for the marriage cert to get the Brides Fathers name to continue the search. (Already gone back 3 generations for Johnson Crawforth). We cannot find the father Joseph wilkinson with children Sarah Elizabeth and George Wilkinson (witness) in the 1891, 1881 cencus. 1911 cencus shows Sarah Elizabeth Wilkinson was born at Catwick Yorks. Unfortunetly the Residence at the time of marriage is a bit un clear, it looks like Eastchup but I cannot find anything that looks like this. I take it that it is somewhere in Yorkshire as Sarah Elizabeth was born at Catwick.
Any advice greatfully received
Rgds
Tony

Hi Tony and welcome :)

First, a question: what was Joseph Wilkinson's occupation, according to his daughter's marriage certificate?

Do you know for sure that Sarah Elizabeth had a brother named George? Presumably a witness to the marriage named George Wilkinson could have been an uncle, cousin, etc - unless you have some other information to suggest that he was a brother.

Anna :)

1891 census: RG12/3952/16/8

Farm House, Catwick

[As one of four servants in a COOK household]

Sarar [sic.] E WILKINSON* Serv S 18 General serv domestic Yorkshire Catwick

*This is my reading, but the handwriting is rather a mess; I suggest you search on the reference: RG12/3952/16/8 - to sidestep any mistranscriptions.

I think in 1881 Sarah E. is enumerated, again in Catwick, as Elizebeth [sic] Wilkinson, 8, daughter of a Sarah.  Also there is a 13 yr old George: RG11/4791/19/7.
