Parish Records for Huddersfield, Yorkshire
« on: Monday 18 January 10 18:01 GMT (UK) »
I am new to Roots Chat and am wondering if anyone would be able to look up the Parish Records for Huddersfield for me.  I have choices to make between several records and don't want to purchase the wrong certificate.  Is this something that is possible, or am I expecting too much?  Thank you.

Have two names the same in the same area.  Clara Marshall.  Am trying to find out which is the right one by checking her marriage certificate to William Haley (September 1895 I think) which would give me her father's name and his profession.  As I said, I am new to this, and am being prompted by a more experienced relative who suggested Roots Chat might find someone who would check the parish register for me, so please let me know if you need any further info.  Thanks for replying so quickly.   :)

OK - the Clara who married in 1895 was b Gomersal around 1865

Gomersal is in the Dewsbury registration district but freebmd has no Clara Marshall birth in that district

I am just going to check the 1871 census

There are 2 Clara Haley's married to William's - yours was b Huddersfield 1873 - sorry for confusion

The birth registrations you mention - one is just Clara and the other is Clara Elizabeth.  The 1895 marriage just shows Clara

Unfortunately - the 1895 marriage has not been transcribed on Yorks BMD and unless the church where they married is known - it cannot be looked up in parish records as the Huddersfield reg district covered a very big area (see link below)

Thanks so much.  Will start with that birth certificate first and move on from there.  Really appreciate your help.  Thanks again.  Presume I now just close this post.

Don't send for the birth cert - buy the marriage cert.  It has been known for people to drop their middle name when they marry

There are only 2 possible census entries so once you know her fathers name from the marriage cert it should be relatively easy to track back
