Halls Oxford Brewery
« on: Tuesday 19 January 10 07:27 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone throw any light on this Brewery/Offices based, I understand in Oxford itself...maybe there were several locations within the city.  I cannot find any information on it other than it was eventually, I believe, taken over by Ansells ie Allied Breweries.  I am particularly interested in the time between 1926 - 1940 as my grandfather was in charge at that tme.

From "Where have all the breweries gone?" by Norman Barber, Brewery History Society:

'Hall's Oxford Brewery Ltd, 32/34 Park End Street.  Founded 1795, Registered in December 1896 to acquire Hall & Co.  From 1899 brewing was concentrated at the City Brewery.  Taken over by Samuel Allsopp* Ltd in 1926 with about 300 licensed houses and brewing ceased in the same year.'
* of  Burton on Trent.

Allsopps merged with Ind Coope of Burton and Romford in 1934 and eventually became part of the huge Allied Breweries group.
