BURTOO family
« on: Wednesday 20 January 10 11:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am new to this site and I am looking for the family of Burtoo.

I have traced from Jesse D Burtoo b:1909 in Farnham to his father James Burtoo b:1869 in St Pancras, London, who married to a Julia Elizabeth Hayward. James father was Nathaniel Burtoo b:c1843 in St Pancras and married twice, first to a Caroline Barnard and then to Sophia Barrett.

I believe Nathaniel's father was named James Burtoo b:c1820 possibly from St Pancras, this information has been retrieved from Nathaniels Wedding Solemnized document.

I cannot however trace James Burtoo b:c1820 further back through the records.

Any information however small would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Mary,

This is really interesting, I would have never known that there was a change in name several times! I wonder if James father's name was much different?

As i've mentioned before I am new to the site and to the world of genealogy in fact, so sorry if this might be a bit of a rookie question, but is there a main reason for the variations of the surname?

Thanks.

Again spelt Bertue in 1841
Edward Street, Regents Park, St Pancras, Middlesex
All except James were born in county
James Bertue 40 Porter? Not born in county
Mary 35
Frank 3?
Thomas 1
Jane 11
HO107; Piece  684; Book:  16; Civil Parish:  St Pancras; County:  Middlesex; Enumeration District:  18; Folio:  19; Page:  33

These are spellings from a census page, it might be that whoever gave the information to the enumerator was illiterate and he took a guess at the spelling he thought best.

I'm going through baptisms to see if I can find any but haven't come across any except a son of James and Caroline, I'll find those details later.
