Date AND Restoration please - Elizabeth
« on: Friday 22 January 10 09:56 GMT (UK) »
Please can someone touch up this photo for me.

I would also like one of our experts to give me an idea of the date that this was taken.  I know who the lady is but would like to know her approximate age when this was taken.

Thank you

PS - Please accept my apologies for the format of my photos - I am such a novice!  I have had trouble attaching anything at all.  Thanks

Shonagh

Hi Shonagh...if you have any more wonderful photos like this to post, please be sure to always scan in colour mode, and at least 300dpi. It gives restorers more to work with :)

Can not really add to Jim and China's dating but thought that I would chuck abit of trivia in about the photographer. Warwick Brookes was born in Manchester and became a top photographer of the period in Manchester and was very active in this field. His studio was at 350 Oxford Road Manchester.  One of his daughters, Blanche, went on to marry Eugen Sandow who is said to be the father of body building, it was Brookes that took photographs of Sandow to illustrate how his body building techniques worked. There was also a John Warwick Brookes who also originated in Manchester and became the second British war photographer to go to the front during the 1st ww where he took over 4,000 photographs. Although I cannot find anything out about him I think that John Warwick Brookes was the son of the gent who took the photograph shown here.
