Forgot there is a page 2 to the New York records.  It showed that Richard was a returning resident of Guelph and had previously been in the US in 1911 at New York.  No mention of any contact person in Canada.

If he was in the States in 1911, perhaps he will show up on their census records.

Census for the US was in 1910
