Kezia was a name in its own right, not a nickname. Kezzie seems to have been the diminutive.

Do you know how the Normans are connected?

I'm putting together and expanding what I already have on the Briars, Patemans and Legates, which I'll post once I've finished it in a day or so. Which one do you descend from?

Hi Kate

Let me know if you disagree with anything. I would have been quicker had I not struggled to find them in censuses, particularly Samuel who is enumerated as Paterson and Bateman in 1851 and 1861, and had died before 1871. His census ages don't match up with his baptism but I'm sure it's the right Samuel

Saturday morning Now I understand why there's so much garbage, sorry, member submissions, on the IGI. One of Hannah Vine Pateman's daughters emigrated to Salt Lake City.

Sorry about all the edits on the previous two messages. I keep finding things to amend or add. I think I've finished now though. Just about! But I'm still working on Frances Pateman, Kezia's sister. Found her. As you've not been online yet, and as JP is away for the weekend, I'll make another very late amendment

Sorry for the lag in me getting back to you, the computer had a huge issue so i am just getting around to replying.  in the 1841 census how do you think that Charles, Mary, James and Harry are related to Kezia, i just cant seem to work it out how, i dont  think that Charles is her son i think that he is her little Brother, i have noticed that all the ages of the adults are rounded of the nearest 5 so Mary and James could be any age between, also when looking at the census the person tallying the Census has put a linethrough each family so you can see the households and it stops with James and Kezia and starts with Charles who is 4 which seems strange.

Charles was the illegitimate son of Kezia, there is no doubt of that. I gave you his baptism on http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,432902.0.html - "son of Kezia" Her parents married in 1803. Charles couldn't have been their son - Ann, Kezia's mother, was baptised in 1781 so would have been well over 50 in 1837. Unfortunately I seem to have missed him off the report that I posted below. He should have been shown as son of Kezia, baptised 21 May 1837 at Langford. Like you, I have this family on a tree on Ancestry - Pateman/Franklin families from Langford - at http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/15049384/person/204559804 - which might be easier to navigate than the tree I posted below. Other than the Kezia/Crisanna issue they're pretty easy to follow, particularly if you look laterally at Kezia's siblings

James 20 was Kezia's brother, Mary was his wife Mary (Franklin), and Henry was their son, Kezia's nephew. They married on 12 Feb 1839 at Langford. The order in the 1841 census makes it fairly clear that Charles was with the Briars, notwithstanding the slash above his name, and the other Patemans were a separate unit. It's odd that Mary appeared first - I wonder if this is connected to James also appearing in the Whiteman household along with two more sisters.
