1891 Census Ardwick/Bradford areas - are there missing bits?
« on: Monday 25 January 10 11:42 GMT (UK) »
Quite a few times now I have failed to find people on the 1891 census who should be in the Bradford/Ardwick/Openshaw areas of Manchester - they turn up on certificates but not on the census.  Are there parts of the 1891 that are not on the sites? (I use Ancestry)

Latest ones I've lost are Hannah McConnell b. 1837 Leeds and husband Anthony McConnell b.1820 Scotland.  They were on Exeter St, Ardwick in 1881.

Hannah died 1894 and Anthony in 1895. I was curious to know if they were still living together in 1891, as according to the online burial records Hannah was buried in a public grave at Philips Park, but Anthony had a private grave in Southern.  ???

Hi

There's an Anthony McConnell with wife Annie in Ardwick - he's a tea dealer would that be him?  He's been indexed as Anthony M Connell  RG12 3167  f24  p42

Yes it is him, thank you Susan  :D :D :D   He's even at the same address - I feel a bit silly now for not spotting him - although that's the first time I've seen Hannah recorded as Annie.

In which case, the Hannah McConnell in Philips Park cemetery might not be Anthony's wife at all ...  ::)  It's definitely Anthony at Southern, I'll have to recheck the burial records again for the name Annie

Thanks very much
 :) Barbara

Thanks Ken, that is Anthony the Tea Merchant all right.  :D

His wife though, her death on Free Bmds is
Hannah Elizabeth L McConnell, Chorlton 4th q, vol 8c pg 485. Age 56.
That's definitely her (b. Hannah Elizabeth Louisa Brownridge, Leeds 1837. Married Anthony in 1873 at Leeds)
I've found Annie Maria McConnell's's death on BMDs, only 31 at death so too young to be the same Hannah :'(

Thanks for Anthony's last address anyway, that's a great help

 :) Barbara
